According to recent reports, it has been seen that half of all the sexually active people will definitely get an STD by the time they reach the age of 25 and most of them won’t even be aware of it. Not having sex is perhaps the only safe way of preventing STDs and this includes vaginal, oral and anal sex. However, even if you’re involved in sex, you can easily reduce the risk of getting STDs by being in a monogamous relationship with a partner who has undergone such tests and has been proved to not having STDs. Using condoms and dental dams are some of the perfect ways of avoiding STDs.
As far as the STD check is concerned, previously you had to meet the concerned doctors and get yourself tested. But now you can easily with the help of your mobile phone devices. Wondering how? Well, a research project in Europe has the aim of allowing people to self-diagnose the sexually transmitted diseases like syphilis and HIV with the help of their mobile phones. But you need not fret about peeing or spitting on the phone as the experts have devised a different technique for the test.
This project has been named “eST12” and it has received a .5 million grant recently to develop certain small chips that can be easily used to test saliva, blood or urine for checking whether or not you have contracted sexually transmitted diseases. On these chips, you might need to pee in some cases which would connect to the mobile phones for processing the result. It is even possible to have a smartphone app that would be able to tell whether a person is tested negative or positive for a particular STD within 5 to 15 minutes. It is redirecting the population to a new way and taking them away from the clinics. Everyone always wanted this process but now it’s time to enjoy it to the fullest.
Despite such various other efforts by the technology experts, sexually transmitted diseases are still on the rise and at the same time the stigma and the shame that is associated with getting tested is also on the rise. Since it has been seen that people are ashamed of sharing such personal things with strangers, this mobile app has been invented by the experts so that the people bearing such diseases can easily test themselves without having to take help of a stranger.
The group that is working for this project has developed chip prototypes that are of the size of the memory card. They will cost about to but there is a goal of bringing down the cost to about so that the sale can continue without any kind of glitches.
Therefore, when you’re wondering about the ways in which you can get yourself tested to know whether or not you carry STDs, you can definitely think of getting this mobile phone installed in your phone.
