Seven Protein Rich Foods to Add to Your Diet

There are many different foods that contain varying degrees of proteins. While some foods contain all of the long chains of amino acids, and some don’t, any of them are good for you and help you increase your protein intake.

Most people. Meat eaters mostly, get more protein than they need. If you are a vegetarian or a vegan you may need to work harder to get your recommended daily allowance of protein, but it may help to know there are many no animal byproduct choices out there for getting the protein you need.

Quinoa

You may have only just started hearing about this ancient grain, but it is a great source of protein. It is also a great diet food and a perfect grain for those that need to eat a gluten free diet. Quinoa is great as a pasta replacement, added to salads, and much more.

Pumpkin

Pumpkins may not be super high in protein, but they do contain some, which makes them a great alternative when you want something other than meat. Try some new recipes with pumpkin, or try some pumpkin seeds, which are also a great source of protein.

Nuts

Most nuts have a good amount of protein in them, while some nuts are healthier for you than others. Aside from protein, nuts also contain omega 3 fatty acids, which is good for your brain and your heart health. Pick nuts like pistachios, almonds, cashews and walnuts. You can even mix them together or add them to salads.

Beans

Full of fiber and weight loss benefits, beans are a great source of protein and one of the main replacements many non-meat eaters use to get the protein they need in their diet. There are all kinds of dishes you can create with beans, from salad dishes to meatless burgers, and even some delicious Mexican meals.

Peanut Butter

Peanut butter is a quick and easy snack food, and a source of protein that even children love. While you could simply have a spoonful of peanut butter, you might find it tastes even better on a piece of celery or even a slice of bread.

Soy Milk

You don’t need to drink cow’s milk to have milk, and you don’t need dairy to get protein rich milk. Start using soy milk for its many benefits. It can be used in cooking, in cereal, and you can even drink it by itself.

Sunflower Seeds

Lastly, have some delicious sunflower seeds for a little boost of protein. They are great added to a salad, or eaten alone. Have them unsalted, or lightly salt with sea salt, and enjoy.

You can get protein if you don’t eat meat. If you are a meat eater you may want to follow portions so that you aren’t overdoing your overall protein intake.
