When it comes to snoring, there are two kinds of people: those who have snored as long as they can remember, and those who only recently found out that they’re snoring. If you fall into the first category, then you’ve probably tried a few anti-snoring devices in your lifetime. People in the second category, on the other hand, are going to have less experience.
But regardless of how long you struggled with snoring (or been aware of the issue), you’ll quickly learn that not all treatments are created equally. There are many different products on the market, but most of them will leave you (and anyone who sleeps within earshot of you) desiring a more effective treatment.
Of all the treatments that are currently available, the most effective are likely to be anti-snoring mouthpieces. There are two overarching types available:
- Mandibular Advancement Mouthpieces: These devices function by holding your jaw in a forward position, which essentially stops you from slipping into snoring. It’s not an uncomfortable position; instead, it’s essentially mimics your mouth’s posture when you are awake.
- Tongue Retaining Mouthpieces: These are newer anti-snoring devices, and they focus on holding the tongue (rather than jaw) in a forward position. This stops the tongue from blocking the airway, which in turn stops the person from snoring.
The above represent two of the most popular options; and one or the other could be more effective depending on the reasons that the person is snoring to begin with. There are also some hybrid models that combine elements from both — but more on that in the next section.
Hybrid Anti-Snoring Devices
It is also possible to find extremely specialised mouthpieces that provide additional defence against snoring by combining effective strategies from multiple treatments. For example, if you search online for a snoring mouth guard that holds the jaw in a forward position whilst stopping the tongue from touching the soft tissue at the back of the throat, you’re likely to find rave reviews accompanying it.
The reason that these models are so well liked is because many people find themselves snoring for more than one reason. Holding their jaw in a forward position may help to alleviate the problem, but that doesn’t mean that it is going eliminate it entirely. By tackling more than one potential cause of snoring, a multipurpose mouthpiece is essentially able to kill two birds with one stone.
Find Real Relief from Snoring
Anyone who has struggled with snoring for a substantial amount of time can testify to what a difficult situation it creates. Repeatedly waking up short of breath throughout the night poses a significant disturbance to one’s sleep schedule. Likewise, the knowledge that your snoring is disturbing a loved one’s rest is equally disheartening.
But when you finally find a mouthpiece that really addresses the problem, the difference it makes in your life is incredible. You and your sleeping partner will feel more rested, while a consistently sore throat and dry mouth in the morning will become a thing of the past.
