Nowadays, one of the most common problems people suffer from is headaches. We’ve all suffered a headache from time to time, and they can be caused by high blood pressure, low blood sugar, allergies or, most commonly, stress. However, a little-known cause of headaches is acidity, when excess acid is produced in your stomach. As well as causing headaches, excess acidity can cause stomach pains, chest pains, heartburn and painful inflammation. If you’re suffering from an acidity headache, it’s recommended that you don’t take painkillers, as these are thought to cause more harm than good. So what can you do? Here is a list of home remedies you can try yourself to attempt to relieve your headache.
Basil leaves is a great remedy. As well as relieving your headache, they can also help relieve the acidity, relax your muscles and provide a calming effect. For this to work, you want to eat around 8 to 12 leaves, which should provide near-instant relief from both symptoms. If you don’t want to eat the leaves, you can also boil 3 to 4 leaves and make basil tea. For a sweeter taste, add a drop of honey. Take a sip and feel instantly relieved!
Eucalyptus oil works by reducing headache pain and relaxing tensed-up muscles. Take your eucalyptus oil and rub a few drops on your forehead. Leave it there for around 15 to 20 minutes and should feel a soothing, calming effect.
Lemon is a classic when it comes to relaxing and unwinding. Juice one whole lemon into lukewarm water, give it a couple of stirs and drink up. The lemony drink helps relieve headaches by combatting the acidic gas in your stomach, and also helps control the acid to alkaline balance. If you’re not a fan of the drink, you could place a piece of lemon rind on your forehead instead, as this also helps.
Coriander Juice & Buttermilk
Drink one tablespoon of coriander juice, mixed in half a glass of buttermilk to settle the acidity levels in your stomach and relieve headache symptoms. The coriander-buttermilk mix is renowned as one of the most famous and effective home remedies around for headaches that are caused by acidity.
Another one of the most effective home remedies for acidity headaches is cinnamon. Get a few cinnamon sticks and crush them up to a fine powder. Add in a few drops of water and mix until it becomes a thick paste. Take this paste and place it on your forehead for around 30 minutes. When the time is up, wash it off with water and you should feel instantly relieved!
